Airview Photography FAQ

1. Why aerial Photography?

Firstly, and most obviously, aerial photography can show more of the total picture of a building, property or landscape than any ground based photography. If your objective is to display your subject in its most complete way, then aerial is the go. If you want to show your subject and its relationship to its surroundings and physical position, then aerial is the go. Aerial photography can provide a much larger range of different aspects, angles and positions of your subject than any ground based photography. You will also be surprised when you compare the prices for aerial work against a comprehensive ground based photo shoot.

2. Why Airview?

Because we’re the best! We’ve been doing it for seven years now, originally just shooting homes for real estate agents around Sydney, but in recent years we’ve been all over the place shooting all sorts of things. Houses, construction progress, ships, forests, mines, vineyards, we’ll photograph anything! We have a full time team of photographers and graphics experts on hand to solve your aerial photography conundrums.

3. So how much does it cost?

The cost of a shoot is largely based upon the actual time in the air it will take to complete the shoot. The main expense in our business is aircraft fuel. The aircraft cost a lot per hour to run, and that forms the basis of the shoot cost. However, we do have set costs for certain standard shoots within certain distances from take off. This includes the standard $495 + GST price for a real estate property shoot within the main metropolitan areas of Australian capital cities. Please refer to our pricing page for all the nitty gritty on custom shoots.

4. Yes, but what do I get for the money?

In general, you will receive around ten shoots in a high resolution digital format. The master “negative” images are a 32 Mb tif file, however most of the time this size is not required for general use, and smaller jpg copies are made for delivery, usually around 3-5 Mb each. You will recieve a variety of shots from all angles, including close ups and vertical(straight down map like view), and any other specific shots you may require.

5. OK, so how do I order a shoot?

Call us! Email us! Send us a letter! Or, fill in the online order form here, submit it and we’ll put your shoot on our next flight plan.

6. How long will it take? Ages, I suppose.

Not at all. We aim to have the images delivered within seven days. When everything is going according to plan, we usually deliver in less. Sometimes you may get them in a couple of days. BUT, things don’t always go according to plan. Our arch enemy, The Weather, can and does play havoc with our schedule, and can delay things. Photos taken on overcast or heavily cloudy days are rarely useable, as the fast shutter speeds required to minimise vibration mean not enough light gets in.

7. Do you shoot from plane or helicopter?

interesting question. We own and shoot from both, depending on the requirements of the job. With the chopper, we can get lower and closer for harbourside properties and the like. It is also a more stable platform for higher end work. We can generally get slightly better overall results from the helicopter. There may be a price difference if the chopper is requested, as they cost more per hour to run. For long distance mining or construction project photography, we’re likely to take the Cessna. We have a specially engineered sliding window, perfect for our purposes.

8. But what if I want video as well?

Well, if you want the best gyro stabilized HD video available in the country, contact our team mates at Airview Xtreme. For a slightly lighter budget, we have hand held HD video available also.

9. What if I only want a stock shot?

That’s easy! Go straight to airviewonline.com.au - the best and fastest growing aerial stock image library on earth!

10. What about blimps? Do you have blimps?

We have no blimps. The variety and volume of work we do necessitates that we get around large areas quickly. The low level blimp or pole camera market is different from ours, and we do wish them all the best, but it’s just not us.
